“Our podcast is definitely not for the faint hearted. It is very cut throat and to the point, as a result we have experienced some backlash.”
Hey guys! It is the 2 RAW Podcast ladies here, we’re so blessed and humbled to be a part of this blog and want to thank The Powder Room for reaching out to us!
So, let’s jump straight in! It’s your girl, squirtle A.K.A spit slurper A.KA Jods, A.K.A Jodie and I host this sex positive podcast with my beautiful co-host, the one and only Sweetest One A.K.A Kimberly. For those of you who aren’t familiar with us and what we are about, we are cousins! We are both from Colombia but were born in London, and we created this podcast in hopes to offer a safe and fun space to talk about sex, taboo topics, real life situations that we as women are faced with and much more! “2 RAW” stands for “2 Real Ass Women”, as we are a pair of real ass women sharing our raw, honest and uncut opinions!
HOW WE GOT STARTED
The idea for this podcast came about 2 years ago when Jodie was listening to a range of different podcasts such as “The Read”, “The Receipts” and “Whoreible Decisions”. She had a lightbulb moment and realised that this could be something she could jump on. Over time both of us would have chats with fellow women, whether it be friends or family, and we would catch ourselves having conversations lasting all night about female topics and life in general. It became apparent that as women, we all lived a similar narrative, however had different views or different ways we would approach situations. We also shared our stories and realised there was so much that some of us had experienced, and could learn from. At this moment, Jodie realised who better to start this journey with, other than Kimberly!
Although this was the case and the blueprint made sense, it took us a while to execute the plan and get the ball rolling. Jodie was brainstorming ideas for the name and came up with 2 RAW Podcast. As someone who deals with a lot of imposter syndrome, Jodie was going back and forth and procrastinating with the idea of actually starting a podcast. Until one day in the middle of a global pandemic and a national lockdown, Jodie had an epiphany. In reality everyone around us is trying to make it, no one really cares whether you succeed or fail at what you are doing, and to be quite frank if they do care, it is because their lives are so sad and they are so jobless that they are obsessed with your every downfall. So, what did we do? We said fuck it, let’s go and got in contact with a logo designer. Once the logo was created and paid for, we knew there was no going back! So, Jodie got in contact with Kimberly, and told her “it’s time. We’re recording this shit!”
We done our research and reached out to a number of people who we know personally within the podcasting industry for some advice and direction. We started the first episode in the hopes to record visuals alongside audio, but that did not go to plan. Our first recording was in a dingy room, with one mic between the both of us and poor sound quality with minimal editing! Nonetheless, it was received super well, and we entered the podcasting world with a bang! To be quite honest we hadn’t planned what we were going to talk about! Things have changed since then haha. We have definitely learnt so much since then, from filming visuals, to editing both audios and visuals, to even purchasing better microphones and learning on how to improve sound quality. We still have so much improvements to make, but it is amazing noticing the process and seeing how far we have come.
Our podcast is definitely not for the faint hearted. It is very cut throat and to the point, as a result we have experienced some backlash. Particularly from men stating “I couldn’t let my girl go on your podcast” or “you guys talk crazy things, men might not want to get involved with you, but well done for putting yourself out there”. To be quite frank, we knew the connotations this podcast would have, we knew the consequences that would come from this. But we also knew that making these conversations a normality within our society is far greater than being desirable to men. We understood that if this podcast could help at least one person we are doing something great. Whether it educates about sex, whether its something listeners can relate to, or simply if it brings a smile to someone’s face when they’re having a bad day.
Overall it has been a great experience to say the least! We have met some amazing people, and learnt so much over the past couple of months! We have really thrown ourselves out of the comfort zone and grown individually and together from this. We still have so much more to come and we cant wait to reveal what we have planned to the world!
Over time we hope to continue having more guests (hopefully The Powder Room girls will do us the honour of joining us, wink wink), we hopefully want to have some sort of live/brunch with our listeners once we continue to grow. We want to also make our brand into merch and clothing over time! Create something big for marginalised males and females, somewhere that they can feel like they can belong and just help each other out! Because after all, we are all just trying to make it and try a ting!
